 History
Pocheon was named in 1413 (13th year of King Taejo's reign in the Joseon Dynasty).
Pocheon was called Mahol-gun (or Myeongji-gun) in Goguryeo when it was the land of Baekje and Goguryeo dynasty. It was named "Gyeonseong-gun" during the reign of King Jinheung in the Silla Dynasty and "Cheongseong" during the reign of King Gyeongdeok. It was called "Poju" in the early Goryeo dynasty and Pocheon in the early Joseon dynasty.

Joseon Pocheon-hyeon in 1413 (King Taejong's reign, the third king)
1914 Yeongpyeong-gun was incorporated into Pocheon-gun in March
1973 Tapdong-ri, Pocheon-myeon was separated into Dongducheon-eup, Yangju-gun by the reorganization of administrative districts. 12 myeons (1 office) and 87 ris (Presidential Decree No. 6452)
1983 Cheongsan-myeon was incorporated into Yeoncheon-gun and Gwanin-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun into Pocheon-gun. 2 eups, 11 myeons and 88 ris (Presidential Decree No. 110027)
2003 Promoted to urban-rural city. Pocheon-eup was divided into Pocheon-dong and Seondan-dong. 1 eup, 11 myeons, 2 dongs (Presidential Decree No. 6928)
